Reference* | Reference: John is actually called "Old John" in the Howden Parish Register on the occasion of his burial. His birth is calculated from the first recorded child's date of birth from his first marriage, in 1539. These records are the beginning of written records for ordinary citizens in the Howden area. There are at least 6 other Pearsons of the same age as John in that area, who are most likely siblings or cousins. There are no parents recorded of any of these 6, however there was a Nicholas Pierson who was Sheriff of York in 1477, who could well have been their Grandfather, as the name Nicholas appears to carry down through several of their lines.2 |
