C., Aug. 4, 1854, a. 67; b. in Westmoreland co., Va., in 1787; senior surgeon in the navy, having entered the navy in 1810; was surgeon on the Enterprise when captured by the Boxer; afterwards served with efficiency on Lake Ontario under Chauncey; was fleet surgeon under Com. Rogers, Elliott and Patterson, in the Mediterranean, and was last in sea service in the Mexican war; was consulting and visiting surgeon of the navy yard and marine barracks at Washington at the time of his death.3
