Obit-Text*The following is a transcription of that obituary:
Mrs. E. C. Fletcher, who accompanied her daughter, Mrs. Rose Barnum, to Chicago last Monday, died at the latter's home, aged 70 years. For some time the deceased had suffered with heart trouble, which caused her death. The remains were brought here this afternoon, accompanied by Mrs. Barnum and Mrs. Chas. Blanchard, and taken from the Michigan Central depot to her home on South Third Street. The deceased leaves three daughters, Mesdames Barnum and Blanchard of Chicago, and Helen Reed of Columbus, O., also six sisters, three of whom, Mesdames T. F. Dougan, Emma Mahoney and Frank Clavereigne, reside here, and a brother, Wm. Browns of this city. Mrs. Fletcher was a daughter of Jacob K. and Sarah J. (Stith) Brown, deceased, and was born in Niles. Her father came here in 1832 and was a contractor and builder. He was one of the trustees of the village chosen at the first village election in 1838. He died in 1891. Mrs. Fletcher was a worthy representative of one of the pioneer families of Berrien County, and was beloved by all who knew her. The funeral will occur Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Methodist Church, Rev. R. H. Bready officiating. Burial at Silver Brook cemetery.
