He was buried in the old family cemetery at "Wagrow," (now Hawthorne), New Jersey, and on what is now a part of the farm of Richard De Gray, one of his descendants. He resided in New York, or Brooklyn, and, it appears, remained for some time after his brothers Joris and Ryer had settled in New Jersey. In 1708, or thereabouts, he joined them in New Jersey, in Bergen County (now Passaic), and thence went to the Wagrow, north of Paterson.

In the Name of God Amen.
I, Edward Dougherty, of the city of Chicago, County of Cook and State of Illinois, being of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of the transitory life do wherefore make, ordain and declare this to be my last Will and Testament:
     First, I order and direct that my Executrix, hereinafter named, pay all my just debts and funeral expenses as soon after my decease conveniently may be.
     Second, After the payment of such funeral expenses and debts, I give devise and bequeath unto my oldest daughter Mrs. Maria V. Reading, now about 20 years old, one half of the money I leave deposited at the time of my death with the Hybernian Bank of the City of Chicago.
     Third, I give devise and bequeath the other half of the money I may leave deposited at the time of my death with the Hybernian Bank of Chicago to my second daughter Lizzy Loretta Dougherty now about 19 years of age.
     Fourth, I give devise and bequeath to my only son Francis Martin Dougherty, now about 17 years old, Lot seventy one (71) in Block Twenty six (26) in Sheffield's Addition to Chicago.
     Fifth, I give, devise and bequeath to my third daughter Ellen Latitia now about 15 years old, Lot Seventy two (72) in Block Twenty six (26) in Sheffield's Addition to Chicago with all improvements thereon.
     Sixth, It is my wish and desire that all my above named four children shall divide all my other personal property as furniture etc in as nearly as possible equal shares among themselves.
     Seventh, I do hereby make constitute and appoint my above named daughter Mrs. Maria V. Reading, sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament and it is my wish and I hereby request that she may not be compelled to give any bond or security as such Executrix or as Guardian and that she may settle the estate in her own way; and I do hereby revoke all and every former will by me made.
     Finally I appoint my daughter Mrs. Maria V. Reading to be Guardian of my children who shall be minors at and after my decease during their minority.
     In witness whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this twenty second day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.
