She moved graciously and effortlessly through the challenges of life. Mary loved books and was an avid reader-she once took 75 books on a 3-week mountain retreat and read them all. Mary was a much loved and respected teacher of Tai Chi Chuan. She was on-call to help with The Art in the Streets Project for many years. She was proud of her work and friends made in her Leadership Austin Class (2000-2001). Mary traveled extensively for her work and pleasure-she instinctively knew her way around, whether in South America, Europe, Mexico of the U.S. Mary touched everyone with her beatific smile and easy laughter and will be remembered always. She is a bright shining star and our dance will not end with her passing. Mary is survived by her partner of 20 years, Heather Abernethy of Austin, Texas; and a large loving family, parents, Carmen and Don McCarthy; sister, Sue; and brother, John McCarthy, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Ruth, Kenny, Dylan, Regan, and Logan Sirbaugh of Stillwater, Oklahoma; brother, Lawrence McCarthy of Arlington, Virginia; and extended family, Elizabeth Moeller of Austin, Texas, and Rachel Moeller of Chicago, Illinois. Memorial Service Pending. Chapter 33, Tao Te Ching, Illustrated Version When you know the true being of another, you can judge- And if you truly know the Tao you will be in the light. It takes force to control people: but if I am humble, I can never be overcome. If you know what you have is enough you will be satisfied. But if you think you don't have enough then you will never have enough! If you follow the Tao, what you are will last. You will live, and live, and outlive yourself again.
