Obit-Text | The following is a transcription of that obituary: John E. “Jack” Simon Sr., retired executive for a St. Louis wine company, died Thursday (August 31, 2000) at Delmar Gardens on the Green in Chesterfield of infirmities. He was 82 and a longtime resident of Ladue. Mr. Simon was director of marketing for Bardenheier Wine Cellars of St. Louis for 35 years until his retirement in 1981. He started his career in 1940 as a special agent of the FBI, serving in the bureau's offices in California before joining Bardenheier in 1946. A native of St. Louis, he graduated from St. Louis University in 1940 with a degree in accounting. Mr. Simon was an active member of the society of former special agents of the FBI for many years and was the St. Louis chapter's president in 1973. He was also active in many charitable organizations including the Legion of Mary, Co-workers of Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity and the Legion of a 1000 Men West at the Carmelite Monastery in Ladue. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ste. Genevieve duBois Catholic Church, 1575 North Woodlawn Avenue. The body will be cremated. Among the survivors are his wife of 57 years, Edith Ann Simon; two daughters, Nannette P. Carmody of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mary Ann Francis of St. Louis; three sons, James J. Simon of Washington, John E. Simon Jr. of St. Louis and Thomas G. Simon of Atlanta; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, Mass offering would be preferred. 3 |
