Funeral from family residence 3950 Evans Ave. on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 8:30 a. m. to St. Ann's Church, thence to Calvary Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Deceased was a member of Branch No. 126, C. K. of A [Catholic Knights of Columbus] and O. P. Q. A. No. 3.

The funeral of James H. Hanratty of No. 3920 Evans avenue, who died at 12:00 a. m. yesterday at his home from Bright’s disease, will take place at St. Anne’s Church, Whittler street and Page boulevard, at 8:30 o’clock this morning. Father McDonald will officiate at the services and the body will be interred in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Hanratty was 62 years old at the time of his death and was probably the oldest plasterer in the city. He was born in St. Louis and for fourteen years was treasurer of the Operative Plasterer’s Association. He was also a member of the Catholic Knights of America. His daughter, Mrs. J. A. Stanton of Detroit, was telegraphed when he was taken violently ill last week, and arrived before the end. Besides Mrs. Stanton and widow, he is survived by eight children, Josephine, James W. Jr., Edward A. , Joseph G., John P., Agnes, Charles and Cora Estelle Hanratty.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, on August 22, 1932, he was the son of James Hineson and Mary Catherine Anderson Taylor. A resident of Boerne since 1992, he was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Comfort. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, both the Boerne and San Antonio chapters, serving on the ROTC committee. He also was a member of the Descendants of Whaling Masters. A Veteran of the U. S. Navy with the rank of 1st Class Petty Officer, he served during the Korean War. He retired from the U. S. Treasury Department with 26 years of service. Preceded in death by his parents and only brother, Neil S. Taylor, Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mary A. Taylor; sons, James Stanton Taylor and his wife, Belinda, Christopher Layton Taylor and his wife, Jean, and Nathaniel Caton Taylor and his wife, Kimberly; grandchildren, Audrey, Layton, William, and Lauren; brother-in-law, William A. Stanton and his wife, Doris; cousins, Judy Ransom, Jane Katerli, and Jan Brieger.

The Recitation of the Rosary was at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 20 at Vaughan's Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 21 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Comfort, with Father Jim Cashin officiating. Burial with Military Honors followed at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio. Pallbearers were Terrance Stanton, Layton R. Buckner, Leo Nichols, Burnie Miller, John Dunkley and Jon Brieger.

Sister Rosalie Mooney , 86, died Monday afternoon at Seton Residence. She was a member of Daughters of Charity. She graduated from the Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, Louisiana State University and St. Mary Dominican College in New Orleans. Surviving are a sister, Josephine Mooney of Chicago; and nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Seton Residence, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. today at Seton Residence, where a wake service will be at 6:30 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Daughters of Charity Foundation.

     Clemens F. Periolat, 86 years old, furrier, historian, and adventurer, died yesterday of heart disease in the James King Home for Old Men, 360 East Garfield boulevard, where he had lived for five years. Mr. Periolat was born on Nov. 22, 1839, in a one story brick building at Lake and Franklin streets, where his father kept a general store. He grew up in Chicago, spending practically all his life here. He was a boyhood friend of George M. Pullman, when Mr. Pullman was a building contractor, and later became the first Pullman car conductor at a salary of $8 a week. As a boy he trapped muskrats and mink on the Chicago river. He lost $180,000 in the Chicago fire, but recouped his losses as a wholesale grocer in the next two years. After he was 50 years old, he made nine trips to the artic on exploring and hunting expeditions. These trips were the foundation for his numerous articles on life in the far north, Alaska and Siberia. He also wrote on the history of Chicago.4

CHICAGO, Jan. 14 – Clemens F. Periolat, furrier, historian, adventurer and Chicago’s oldest native citizen, died yesterday. His only son, George, a moving picture actor, will arrive from Hollywood today to arrange for the funeral. Mr. Periolat was born in Chicago in 1839. As a boy he became friends with George M. Pullman, who was then a building contractor, and later was conductor of the first Pullman coach at a salary of $30 a month. When Mr. Pullman learned that his young conductor was making $90 a trip on the side by using the coach to transport peaches from St. Louis, he avoided a quarrel with the express company by discharging Periolat. Periolat, then entered the fur business and made many trips to the Artic in this connection.
